You Can’t Just Sit There!
You can’t just sit there! A man wanted to go up in a hot air balloon, drift over his neighborhood and wave to his neighbors. He couldn’t afford that, so he bought some weather balloons and a helium tank. He tied the inflated balloons to his lawn chair and cut the ropes.
Instead of going up a few hundred feet, he rose over 10,000 feet and drifted into the flight path of a large metropolitan airport. Using helicopters, he was brought down safely. Three reporters and the police were awaiting his return to earth. One reporter asked, “Why did you do it?” His answer was classic: “Sometimes in life you can’t just sit there!” As radical as that man’s action was, there is a great principle in his answer. If we are going to win the lost of our community and world to Christ, we must become dissatisfied with the status quo. Sitting in our pews will not get the job done. If we are going to take Jesus Christ to our communities and light our world, we’ve got to witness to our friends, our neighbors, our city. We must make a commitment to be soul-winners. Personally, it means you must surrender to the Lord Jesus Christ and let Him use you to light your world. There are five actions involved in lighting your world as a soul-winner. First, pray each day for those in your world who need Christ. Second, do a Christ-like deed periodically for one of the people in your world as an expression of God’s love. Third, demonstrate to those in your world who need Jesus your commitment to Christ by being faithful in attending group Bible study. Fourth, invite people to worship with you and join you in Bible study from among your family, friends, neighbors, and associates. And finally, as opportunity presents itself, share the good news of Jesus Christ. You can’t just sit there!
