Passion for Ministry
Searching for meaning in life is like a blindfolded person trying to find an empty seat in a crowded room. Some people call out confusing directions, some stand in the way, and still others put things
in the way. Someone is needed to take the person by the arm and show the way. This is a common scene for those in need of Christ: many are confused by the lives of believers they observe, stumbling over the compromise of Christians. People need clear direction. It’s your responsibility to show them the way to peace in Jesus Christ. In Matthew 9:27-38, we see that Jesus’ ministry passion drove Him to God’s work, in spite of opposition. So many people are in need of what only He can provide: spiritual life. Let me suggest three things from this passage. First, open your eyes—“When he saw the crowds.” (v. 36) People in our lives need Jesus. Look beyond the outward appearance and see the hurt on the inside. We may never see the beauty in some people, but when we realize how much they mean to God, we will do what we can to help them. Second, open your heart—“He had compassion for them.” (v. 36) Effective witnesses must have a compassionate attitude. There’s a saying: “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” People lost without the salvation that Jesus offers need compassion. Third, open your mouth—“Pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” (v. 38) Tell people about Jesus Christ; share the gospel message! The apostle Peter wrote, “Always [be] prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you.” (1 Peter 3:15) Be ready to speak. A silent witness of a godly Christian is good, but people need to hear how to be saved. Have you asked God to help you see those in need? To develop in you a compassionate heart? To give you boldness to share the gospel?
