Enjoy Fellowship with God
Do you have a daily fellowship time with the Lord? King David said in Psalm 63:1-2, “O God, You are my God; early will I seek You; my soul thirsts for You; my flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water. So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, to see Your power and Your glory.”
As believers and servants of Jesus Christ, His wisdom is necessary for our daily activities. King Solomon recorded in Proverbs 2:4-5, speaking of wisdom: “If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; then you will understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.” The Psalms and Proverbs are a wonderful place to spend time in fellowship with Jesus. As you deal with the emotional ups and downs in life, you will be ministered to mightily by the Psalms (the writers rode the same emotional rollercoaster as you do). When you join the wisest man who ever lived (besides the Lord Himself) in the rich mines of Proverbs, you will emerge with treasures of practical wisdom. When you consider that there are 150 psalms and 31 chapters of Proverbs, it seems like God designed them for daily use. If you read 5 psalms and 1 chapter of Proverbs each day, you will read completely through those books every month. And you will consume much soul-nourishing food! The pattern that I use is very simple because it is attached to the days of the month. I begin with the psalm that matches the day. Read that one and every thirtieth one after it – i.e. Psalms 1, 31, 61, 91, 121 – on January 8th (tomorrow) you would read Psalms 8, 38, 68, 98, 128. In addition, read the chapter of Proverbs that goes along with that day. An extra tip is to read Psalm 119 on the 31st rather than on the 29th of the month (since it is so long), along with Proverbs 31. How long will it take you to read these daily? Only about 30 minutes; but it will change your life!
